[12-23-2008 6:00pm] - Around 11:00am today (Tuesday, Dec. 23rd, 2008) some DSL customers had trouble connecting sometimes receiving error number 691. We determined the problem was in the telephone company's network. We reported this problem to the telephone company and the problem appeared to be resolved around 12:00pm.
Later in the evening the problem reappeared around 6:00pm (Tuesday, Dec. 23rd, 2008). We again reported the problem to the responsible parties and telephone company technicians are working on it at this time. We have been informed by the telephone company that the problem is due to a failing router in Norfolk that handles much of this area's broadband services. An attempt to reroute to a backup router was unsucessful due to the high load and number of customers that the failing router supports. We were also told that a replacement for the failing equipment is in route to the location and telephone company technicians are preparing to install it as soon as it arrives. We have been given an estimate that work should begin tonight and be completed sometime between midnight and 4:00am.
We appoligize for this inconvience. We are monitoring the progress of the telephone company repairs. We will update this message with any new information we receive.
Please note that this issue is only affecting DSL connections. Dialup and other services are unaffected. Also, all DSL accounts include dialup access. Any affected DSL customer may still connect via dialup until the DSL issue is resolved. For reference, our 56K dialup access numbers are...
